'McBeth'

Shirley McKeand , Margot McIntyre & Elizabeth Griggs (embroidery) and Maggie Murray (Millinery).

These four artists bring a generous amount of drama and theatre to their embroidered and lace creations. From hats and coats to wedding dresses and accessories this is a 'not to be missed' exhibition for anyone interested in wearable textiles. It opens at Gracefield Galleries in Dumfries on Saturday 6th January and runs for six weeks until 10 February.

Although active members of the Dumfries & Galloway Guild of Embroiderers, Shirley, Margot and Elizabeth have recently formed their own group 'McBeth'. Their aim is to promote their work and show the diversity available in traditional and contemporary embroidery. While each has their own skills, working collaboratively helps stretch their ideas and talents. This is the first time they have shown together and their joint wall hangings (the largest of which is 4x8ft) will be on display along with individual creations such as dresses and jackets, framed pictures and other items.

Maggie Murray is based in Milngavie near Glasgow and is showing a wide selection of felted and embroidered millinery creations. Inspired by nature, Maggie has a hat for all occasions -- from a local wedding to Ascot, with each featuring feathered flourishes, flowers and felt designs. She trained originally in Graphic Art at Glasgow School of Art but has been concentrating on her millinery work in recent years with her own practice and teaching weekly classes and summer schools.

The artists will be in the Galleries from 2-4pm on Saturday 6th January to discuss their work. This is a free event with refreshments served and all are welcome.
