"Michael May" | ||||
Michael May who is one of the country’s most talented scenic artists, studied art at Edinburgh University and after graduating, moved to London where he has lived ever since. Seamless execution of backings and sets for some of the nation’s favourite programmes and films has placed Michael’s skill and experience in great demand. In a career spanning nearly 40 years during which he was head of Scenic Art at both the BBC and Thames TV before running his own highly successful company, his work has been viewed and admired by millions. Michael’s professional talents have created such diverse settings as the world of Lark Rise to Candleford, the set for Top Gear (including the portrait of the Stig), the BBC Proms, and several Big Brother Houses. Other work includes sets for pop videos with stars such as Van Morrison and Robbie Williams. Within the world of comedy he has provided sets for the Kumars at No 42, The Mighty Boosh, Bremner, Bird & Fortune, Mock the Week and many more. Even the chic world of fashion has called upon him and hand-painted canvasses by Michael have appeared in Gucci shops around the world. For many years Michael’s own personal work has been developing too. To celebrate his 60th birthday an exhibition of his work took place at Lauderdale House, Highgate, London, during the month of June. This gave members of the public an opportunity to view a range of work from minutely detailed pencil drawings to larger paintings in oils. Michael has also been working in mixed media to create a fascinating series of abstract works on paper and wood and he is currently producing a collection of limited edition prints. Among the work on display is a selection of portraits mostly of family and friends, many produced to commission. Michael May is happy to discuss and accept commissions and can be contacted by e-mail at info@rostronandmay.co.uk (Press Release by Jane May)
