'Letters to the Editor'

Edinburgh Tram

Dear Editor, I have discovered that the new trams due to operate in the City of Edinburgh will be manned by an Inspector in addition to the driver. The Inspectors job is to make sure all passengers are in possession of a valid ticket for their journey. Tickets will be available for purchase from a machine at each stopping point. Why not have a conductor on the trams?

Scottish Parliament Building

Dear Editor, Often schools are given a bad name by the children that attend. However, I am pleased to see that schools from 32 local councils in Scotland are sending their pupils on a trek to the Scottish Parliament. Their pupils will be there on Monday 10th May. That is to take part in a competition about European Affairs. Is that not wonderful. Not only will they experience the building but they will participate in a Competition. Fantastic. Perhaps they could also have a competition on Scottish Affairs. Once we have heard the questions someone might be able to give us the answers to the questions.

Best wishes Mr McPhinnie

EU Building Interior, Brussels

Dear Editor, I have just heard, Scottish Government Education Secretary, Mike Russell is to make a short speech at the European Council of Ministers, Brussels in Gaelic. What a waste of money and time. The official languages for the EU include French, English and Russian. There are of course others. But Gaelic is an unofficial language. I understand the need for the use of Gaelic in Scotland. But not in Brussels, there is just no point. What a waste of time and money especially in a time of economic constraint. We are making unnecessary work for everyone.

Best wishes David Jones
