'Letters to the Editor'

Airport check-in area

Dear Editor, While leaving my luggage at the BA Bag Drop in my local airport I noticed that British Airways have engaged an agency to take on this task at check-in. Unfortunately the staff employed by this agency appear to be a little lax in their responsibilities to ensure passengers show identification and also confirm no-one has tampered with any bags etc. It would be more reassuring as a passenger to know that all efforts are being taken to ensure a safe journey to my destination.

Langlands School, Dumfries

Dear Editor, It is always good to see money being raised for charity. And I thought it would be good to bring to your attention the work of the 'The Dumfries Cornets Club'. They raised over £1,700 as part of their charity showjumping event recently at Rigghead, Collin. Their fund raising efforts are to support Langlands School to help towards the purchase of a new mini bus.

Well done Dumfries Cornets.

Best wishes, Nancy Baxter, Dumfries

Debating Chamber Scottish Parliament

Dear Editor, The Scottish Government are about to legislate to protect home owners from repossession. Debt issues are relieved and monies are being made available to the Citizens Advice Bureau to help those in need. In my view this legislation is long overdue. People need protection against the banks and building societies that have no regard to the family home of those that have had the misfortune to have a drop in income. Usually through no fault of their own.

Best wishes. Andrew Gillespie, Glasgow
