A group of 10 long-term unemployed adults aged between 18 and 25 years and two social workers from Leipzig in Germany have been experiencing life in Fife. |
YOUTH START |
Over the last seven years Fife Council has developed a valuable partnership with the City of Leipzig which was previously part of East Germany. The partnership began seven years ago with a European Social Fund project entitled “Youthstart” which looked at a networked approach to the prevention of school failure and the negative impact it can have on people’s lives. Following the end of the funding for “Youthstart”, Fife and Leipzig have continued to work together where disadvantaged young people from Fife and Leipzig have been involved in exchanges to each other’s country. |
WELCOME FROM COUNCIL CONVENER TOM DAIR |
Fife Council Convener Tom Dair welcomed the group to Fife and said: “There is much good work being done in Fife to combat the effects of long term unemployment, social exclusion and racism. I hope that this visit has been both informative and an inspiration. I look forward to continuing cultural exchanges with Leipzig.” |
The visit lasted six days and during their stay the group met with Fife Council’s Social Work team who help young people coming out of care, Fife Constabulary, local ethnic minority community youth groups, participated in a video on racial awareness and tried out some activities at the East Neuk Outdoor Centre. |
