'In-House
Productions' was established in 2002 to perform 'The Fantasticks'
to raise funds for Castlegate Arts. The following year 'Guys and
Dolls' profits were donated to the new Royal Aberdeen Children's'
Hospital, and in 2004 Castlegate Arts again benefited from a production
of the 'Baker's Wife'.
Wilma Gillanders has set up a cast which consists of members drawn
from the Aberdeen Opera Company, Attic Theatre, Deeside Musical
Society, Phoenix Theatre, The Flying Pigs, The Unusual Suspects,
Studio Theatre Group and The Student Show plus a marvelous bunch
of people working hard behind the scenes and on stage doing all
kinds of wonderful and miraculous things.
Their recent production 'Into the Woods', which was staged in Aberdeen
Art Centre, is an amazing musical. The story intertwines a collection
of uncensored versions of fairy tales from folklore such as Cinderella,
Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and a story
by James Lapine the Baker and his Wife. This was played to packed
audience(s) at the Aberdeen Arts Centre from 28th to 30th July 2005.
Music and lyrics written by Stephen Sondheim and the storyline is
from a book by James Lapine.
The cast Tim Tricker (Musical Director), Andrew Youngson, Gareth
Masson, Steven Worsley, Moray Barber, Mitchel Barrie, Lindsay Cromar,
John Hardie, Wilma Gillanders, Gill Smith, Claire Angus, Abigail
Westwood, Anna Hamilton, Nadine Small, Tracey Mair, Claire Bleasdale,
Gayle Hardie, Elana Neal-Upton, Moira Docherty, Joan McKichan, Stuart
Mearns and Joyce Falconer where appreciated immensely by the audience
and clapping extended to a full 5 minutes at the end of Friday night's
performance.
All we can say is that the acting, music, set and dance were all
superb and we can't wait for In-House Productions next performance.
