Wireless Cities | ||
| The month of November saw the inauguration of a new organisation called 'Wireless Cities'. The main function of this body of people, who come from all walks of life in the Information Technology field is to provide expert advice and guidance to Heads of IT Departments, Project Managers and other personnel involved with implementing WiFi access within local amd National government. WiFi is a technology that allows data transfer over specified radio frequencies, this in turn removes the need for cabled connections making device portability possible. Mr Charles Litster, Project Manager for Aberdeen City Council and chair of the Scottish arm of 'Wireless Cities' and named 'Electronic Service Delivery' regards the coming together of various expertise in this field will enhance the smooth running and implementation of this advanced technology and also ensure all authorities have the same opportunities to introduce this service across Scotland. Many private households already operate a WiFi connectivity when using desk and laptop computers. The availability of WiFi within certain city boundaries will allow the usage of Personal Computers to access e-mail and web facilities while in the city centre. Editor.
