Dear Editor, I was in Edinburgh town centre on Monday, on the first day of the 2.5% VAT cut. Some of the doubting Thomas’s said the reduction would make no difference. Well surprise, surprise the shops where heaving with Christmas present buyers – all had been eagerly waiting for the 2.5% VAT cut. All I can say is well done Brown and Darling they have got the economic policy right. Trevor Smith, Aberdeen | ||

Dear Editor, I am pleased to hear that the Royal Bank of Scotland has extended the period from 3 to 6 months before they take action to repossess a house due to difficulties the owner may have in paying their mortgage. However, has any thought been given to helping the person in trouble with their mortgage during this period? If so great the debt may go down – if not the debt could escalate regardless. Name and Address withheld.

Dear
Editor, Visit Aberdeen or London, wait for a bus and you see a display that
tells you when the next bus is coming. Visit Inverkeithing, in Fife - just
outside of the railway station and wait for a bus. No matter what time of
day it is the display shows bus arrival times from 17:45 to 19:45. That
might be useful at about 17:40 and onwards but useless any other time of
the day. I wonder why Stagecoach and Fife Council do not want the times
of the buses displayed throughout the rest of the day.
