"Frank To" - Artist

Glasgow born (1982) artist Frank To currently has two Christmas exhibitions running. That is one at the Queens Gallery in Dundee, then one until 1st March 2009 at the Kilmorack Gallery, Beauly. Here you will see just two pictures. Should you wish to see more, then at the Queens Gallery, Dundee you will find a larger selection of Frank’s latest work. This Dundee exhibition ends just a little earlier. That is just within the Christmas period on Christmas Eve 24th December 2008.

Joyce McGlone, Director of The Queen’s Gallery, said, “Frank’s striking figurative images have featured in various of our mixed shows, leading to our featuring a larger body of his work in a successful exhibition in January 2008.

“Not only is it a pleasure to hang Frank’s work in the gallery for our customers to enjoy and purchase, it is also a delight to work with a talented young artist who has a completely professional approach to the business of art.”

The painting technique used by this artist is inspired by a story attributed to the Renaissance sculptor, Michelangelo. It was said Michelangelo could visualise the human form within a block of marble. To, similarly, teases out figures from initially abstract images. Other influences on his work are drawn from literary sources, such as the Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle.

Arguably his most famous collector is Patrick Stewart, who said, “I have known this artist's work since his degree show at Huddersfield University and have several of his paintings, including a quite powerful and unusual portrait of myself. I like Frank’s work for its thoughtfulness, intensity, use of colour and mature technique.”
