"Dave MacGregor, Louise Wreathall and Michael May"

Meet Dundee’s very own Dave MacGregor an amazing 24 year old from Scotland. He is at the moment playing in a jazzy psychedelic rock band coma-toast (www.myspace.com/comatoastjazz1) Dave in his spare time also teaches the guitar from home. What an amazing guy. We feature his Coma-toast Jazz band. Coma-toast started late in 2007 after Bob and Dave met again after 5 year break from Perth College where they had attended a music course.

Soon after forming the band Bob and Dave wrote a few songs and decided to play at open nights around Dundee with a view to forming a full band. At the first of the open mic nights, in the Doghouse, they met Ryan who liked the sound of the tunes and offered to play bass. After stringing Ryan along for a few weeks Dave and Bob decided a drummer might be handy. After standing in for a band cancellation at a local gig Dave harassed Indica's drummer Ed until he agreed to play, possibly just to shut Dave up. After the first couple of jams the vibe was great and the band was formed. Recently Coma-Toast has been playing all over Scotland trying to build a fan base. Should you wish to see them in action just pop along to the gigs on the following dates and at these exciting venues.

Often it is the simplest solutions that succeed and this is what Flexi Time Management on the Web has achieved. In September 2007 Louise Wreathall (Director) from Aberdeenshire set up www.flexitimemanager.co.uk . Very simply employees access this web site, then enter their start and finish times. Once all the times are entered on the press of the submit button the number of hours worked is calculated. This is then a record of the employees working hours. From which a record of time at work is recorded so that employees can work flexibly, perhaps working longer on one day/week and shorter on another.

The software behind it is classic html with javascript to perform the calculations. The software Content Management System used is interestingly from the Isle of Skye. That is the Portree based company Sitekit. One note of caution, as the flexi time site uses Javascript one always needs to remember to have Javascript switched on in your browser.

Should you wish to give this a go, it costs £30 a year for each employee on your flexi time scheme. However, if you sign up now you can have 4 weeks on free trial. For more information you can contact Louise at mail@flexitimemanager.co.uk . This is an ideal solution for small and medium size enterprises needing more flexibility in employee hours.

Michael May who is one of the country’s most talented scenic artists, studied art at Edinburgh University and after graduating, moved to London where he has lived ever since. Seamless execution of backings and sets for some of the nation’s favourite programmes and films has placed Michael’s skill and experience in great demand. In a career spanning nearly 40 years during which he was head of Scenic Art at both the BBC and Thames TV before running his own highly successful company, his work has been viewed and admired by millions.

Michael’s professional talents have created such diverse settings as the world of Lark Rise to Candleford, the set for Top Gear (including the portrait of the Stig), the BBC Proms, and several Big Brother Houses. Other work includes sets for pop videos with stars such as Van Morrison and Robbie Williams. Within the world of comedy he has provided sets for the Kumars at No 42, The Mighty Boosh, Bremner, Bird & Fortune, Mock the Week and many more. Even the chic world of fashion has called upon him and hand-painted canvasses by Michael have appeared in Gucci shops around the world.

For many years Michael’s own personal work has been developing too. To celebrate his 60th birthday an exhibition of his work took place at Lauderdale House, Highgate, London, during the month of June. This gave members of the public an opportunity to view a range of work from minutely detailed pencil drawings to larger paintings in oils. Michael has also been working in mixed media to create a fascinating series of abstract works on paper and wood and he is currently producing a collection of limited edition prints. Among the work on display is a selection of portraits mostly of family and friends, many produced to commission.
