Dear Editor, I recently travelled from Edinburgh to Southern Ireland by Ryanair and when checking in at the airport on my return journey was quite astounded to be told my suitcase was 2kg over weight. Umm I thought, that is rather strange as the same number of items are in the case for its' return to Scotland. After much discussion with the check-in desk girl I was told I had to remove an item weighing at least 2kg or be charged £30 for excess baggage. So, I held up the queue while I removed a coat from my case. The odd thing about all this is that my husbands case was at least 2kg lighter than required. I had the option to put the coat into it. Why not jut add the weight of the two cases and the sums would have balanced. Who said the Irish were strange? Name and address withheld

Dear Editor, Many Councils are reducing street lighting – switching lights off or reducing the power at certain times of the night usually between 12 midnight and 6 am. Interestingly according to a report from the home office and I will quote it says “Street lighting is up to seven times more effective than closed-circuit television systems at reducing crime”. Therefore it is my view that penny pinching Councils are putting their residents at risk and increasing resident’s household insurance premium in an attempt to cut Council costs. Dear
Editor, There is a great concern these days about the environment and the
waste we produce. One way to help is quite simply to buy in bulk. That is
avoid buying lots of small bottles or cans of juice and soft drink. Not
many are aware that buying larger bottles can reduce the amount of waste
you produce. Even better still because you are buying in bulk the unit cost
is cheaper so you are saving money too!
Hope that helps, Money Miser, Scotland
