"North Queensferry gets

the 'HUMP' "

North Queensferry

House of Character in North Queensferry

North Queensferry is a small sleepy picturesque village in Fife just across the River Forth from Edinburgh. It's harbour was once the landing stage for people crossing the river by ferry between South Queensferry and North Queensferry prior to the Forth Road Bridge being built. The village managed to maintain its' country atmosphere with narrow roads and little inlets where you can find cottages of character until Fife Council decided to place traffic calming 'HUMPS' throughout the entire village area. Why? Have the council got too much money to waste or do they have a responsible official who thought they would wake up a normally docile area by ruining village life. Despite the pleas from the village residents not to have the 'Humps' installed, they appeared as if from nowhere!

.

So what diffference have the 'Humps' made? Not a lot from what the villagers say. The streets are so narrow that to allow two cars to pass each other requires nerves of steel and courtesy and consideration for other road users. No opportunity to rally round at great speeds. The installed 'Humps' have been placed in the most odd places, at one entrance to the village you will find these outside the first signs of habitation, at a corner which requires a safe speed of 20 mph. to negotiate. Another can be found not at the entrance to the village by another road, but almost in the village itself, around a blind corner which again can only safely take a speed of 20 mph. Why try to slow down traffic that is already using a safe speed along the village streets? That is a question for the bureacrats to answer.
