'Letters to the Editor'

Edinburgh Tram

Dear Editor, Well the saga continues regarding the botched-up tram system being installed in Edinburgh. The city is in turmoil, roads are dug up, traffic diversions are all over the place. Shops are losing trade and to crown it all the people in charge of this project have now announced that the second phase has been cancelled. This project should never have been started in the first place, long gone are the days when something like this could be built and be the pride of a city. Let's pull the plug on it before the country is made bankrupt.

Debating Chamber Scottish Parliament

Dear Editor, I have just found out that on Wednesday 29th April the Scottish Parliament talked about the State of the Scottish economy, tackling unemployment and looking forward. Let us all hope that this was not just another talking shop and the government came up with some solutions. That is so that the thousands of newly unemployed are returned to employment. Perhaps grants will be made available to companies to employ people and contracts awarded to small Scottish companies. By choosing the right mix those Scottish companies could make our national and local government more efficient.

Wheelie Bins

Dear Editor, A Scottish Local Authority have decided to run an experiment in recycling waste. They have chosen a number of villages to take part. One of the problems is the chosen areas are mainly conservation areas which contain listed buildings, the rules for usage of outside space around these buildings is quite strict. The intention is that four bins will be allocated to each house, mmm, where do the residents store these bins? How do the vehicles collecting the waste maneouvre through the streets which are fairly narrow? Again someone has pushed through an idea without actually thinking about the consequences. Is this not typical of our people in authority?
