Dear Editor, On a recent trip to the City of Edinburgh, my husband and I decided to have dinner at a rather nice restuarant before returning home. We ordered our meal and then to our surprise were presented with a chopping board displaying a piece of steak, some chips, a mushroom and a tomato on top. Where is the plate for us to eat off? Oh not in this establishment, they use chopping boards for that. Not very hygenic, how can they clean the board before each serving when it cannot be cleaned in a dishwasher. Every time a knife was used to cut the steak you could see the groove left behind as a result. (Accumulating germs!!!) I wonder what the Health and Safety Executive would have to say about this!!!! Dear Editor, Did you know that MSPs will be still allowed to claim expenses for Remembrance Day wreath? This is, despite moves to block the practice in the UK Government. The Scottish Parliament has decided that MSPs who represents Holyrood at a remembrance ceremony should be allowed to claim the cost of a wreath back. However, some veterans, say politicians should pay for the wreaths themselves. Personally I think if MSPs need to attend a number of these services it is unfair of us to expect them to pay. But on the other hand there is potentially one rule for the MSPs and another for our MPs. What a mess! Best wishes, Adrian Hunter, Scotland | ||

Dear
Editor, The Scottish Government is thinking about re-introducing Higher
Education course fees. Students find it difficult to survive as it is
without adding an extra burden. I am aware that they can pay them once
they have completed their course. But this is adding even more debt to
someone starting out on their career of a lifetime. Worse still in the
current economic environment there may be no job at the end of the day.
