A selection of Edinburgh Festival Fringe ActstsA selection of Edinburgh Festival Fringe Acts'Oreja' Ukraine folk trio

During my visit to Edinburgh in August I was fortunate enough to arrive at the same time the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was in full swing. The pictures opposite were taken by myself while spending time in the High Street complex, I was amazed at the effort and attention to their cosutmes by the two ladies. Hopefully their collection boxes were full as both provided 'mime to music' The two gentlemen were from the Ukraine, a third member of the group can be seen at the rear of the picture. Their music was a treat to listen to and consisted of ballads, wedding songs and rousing handclapping dances. I believe the group are called 'Oreja'. If this is a sample of what the Festival offers than I will return next yearr. Mrs McFinnie, Scotland

Dear Editor I was interested in reading about the 'BIG NIGHT IN' in aid of raising money for PiggyBankKids in last months edition. What a wonderful idea, to have fun and collect funds for a very good cause. The work being carried out by this charity will help alleviate a lot of pain and suffering incurred by families when pregnancies go wrong. I also noticed while visiting their website that a book 'Journey to the Sea' is being published and will be available from Spring 2005 in support of 'Special Olympics Great Britain'.

Beach between John O'Groats and Thurso

Many of us travel abroad during the holiday season to find sun kissed beaches and a quiet life, but how many people in Scotland are aware of the beaches around our coast that are more appealing and less expensive to visit. I have sent you a picture of a section of beach which can be found along the North of Scotland coast between John O'Groats and Thurso. Infact you will find many stretches of coast line like this in that area. This came as a surprise to us when my family visited that part of the country during the summer season.
