North Queensferry Village

Community Centre Function

Centre Library

The village of North Queensferry is soaked in history dating back hundreds of years, and throughout that time many famous residents have graced the narrow streets and paths of the area. Some 25-30 years ago the 'Institute' as it was known, was demolished and the people of North Queensferry were left without a Communty Hall to use for various functions and village celebrations. At that time a Mr Ernie Bowyers lived in the village and worked at the Shell/Exxon Petrochemical plant at Mossmorran, which was nearing completion. He offered the portacabins which were used during the construction of Mossmorran to the people of North Queensferry. After planning permission was granted to replace the demolished 'Institute' with the cabins, work began on a journey filled with excitement and pride.

Local labour including joiners, electricians, painters, plumbers, bricklayers and labourers all worked together on a voluntary basis to create the building that still stands to this day. The centre was officially opened in September 1992 and since then has increased its' facilities by providing a computer room, library, small function room for chldrens parties a large function room for receptions, birthday parties, village fetes, kitchen and bar plus changing rooms for teams using the playing fields.

The Centre Committee Members work hard to maintain the building and ensure all the facilities are used to their maximum. Recently it was suggested the Centre be opened up for small businesses to use for training purposes or meetings in addition to the organisations who utitlise the premises at the present time.

What an achievement, the Centre which stands at the top of a hill overlooking the River Forth, was built by and to this day belongs to the Villagers of North Queensferry. Editor
