'Letters to the Editor'

Fringe enthusiasts in High Street Edinburgh

Dear Editor, I recently spent time in Edinburgh at the festival fringe but found transport to and from the city was almost non existant in the later hours of the day. As many shows start after 9 o'clock this problem is hindering fans of the fringe from attending the various performances by new and established actors performers etc. The City Council should look at providing public transport into the small hours during the festival period. Also in the outlying areas of the city the transport companies should also look at this provision. It has been noted that attendance at the fringe this year was down on last year perhaps if this problem was resolved everyone would be happy.

Lauder College, Dunfermline logo

Dear Editor, Is it me or has the world gone daft? Members of Lauder College in Dunfermline wish to change the name 'Lauder College' to 'Carnegie College', why I ask myself. After all Andrew Carnegie actually bequeathed the school to Dunfermline and agreed with assembled guests that it should be named after his uncle George Lauder. So why change it? Perhaps it has something to do with cashing in on the name Carnegie but this would insult Andrew Carnegie himself as it was his idea to name it after his uncle. All very confusing.

Road Works

Dear Editor, A strange thing is happening in Dalgety Bay, in Fife a road works company are systematically scraping approximately 3m x 5m of tarmarc off the roads at each junction into cul-de-sacs from Moray Way North and Moray Way South then a couple of days later replacing it with another layer of tarmac. There is no rhymn or reason for it, so are these people just practicing laying tarmac at the council tax payer's expense?
