'New Kids on the Block'

The Edinburgh Graduate Theatre Group first came to light in 1954 by a number of Edinburgh University graduates, who were previously members of the University Dramatic Society. Over the years, the original members were joined or replaced by fresh generations of talent, still maintaining a connection with the University. The group meet and rehearse in the Grads Association rooms and have performed in regular productions in the Adam House Theatre. On average four varied theatrical productions are presented each year, including participating in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the SCDA One Act Festival competition.

This year at the Fringe the group put on the production of 'Tiny Dynamite' by Abi Morgan at Diverse Attractions, in Riddles Court, High Street, Edinburgh. The cast included Chris Condie, Paul Shultz and Lesley Paul and was directed by Claire Wood.

The story itself is gripping and about three people who knew each other in their childhood years. Life took a turn when a storm hits and lfie for each of them changes.

Thom Dibdine wrote in the Edinburgh Evening News 'Electric performances in a highly charged show. As Lucien, Paul Schultz creates a controlling kind of character. Chris Condie's Anthony is the wild, talkative one. Condie and Schultz do much to set up this odd-couple relationship on the purely platonic level that it really is. With Lesley Paul putting a wonderfully naturalistic performance as Madeleine.'

A visit to www.egtg.co.uk will reveal the full extent of this company's achievements to date. Hopefully we will see them return in 2008 to take the theatre audiences by storm in the Fringe and again be awarded a four star commendation or higher from the theatre ctritics.
