Gala '2004'

Another prestigious event takes place this month in the Scottish Borders the 'Moffat and District Gala' which runs from Saturday 10th July to Saturday 17th July. If you happen to be in the area then this is an event not to be missed. A selection of the items listed in the official programme are below:-

Saturday 10th July

Foreign Object Competition (forms can be collected from Helen's Gents Hairdressers, Well Street, Moffat. 10pm -Disco in P.I.S.C. Gala Princess Election. Blue Sky Disco.

Sunday 11th July

10.30am - at Park Circle Playing Fields 5-a-side football Primary Children. 1.30pm - at Park Circle Playing Fields 5-a-side football Secondary Children and Adults. 7pm - Observation Trail, Moffat Town Hall

Monday 12th July

2pm - Daffy Dill, Moffat Town Hall. 6.30pm - Games Magic and Bubbles Green Bowling Competition, Beechgrove Bowling Green. 7.45pm - Junior Darts Competition in P.I.S.C.

Tuesday 13th July

10am - Tennis Competition Borthwick Rose Bowl, Beechgrove Tennis Courts Juniors: under 12yrs - Seniors: 12-16yrs. 6pm - Moffat Festival of Running, The Ram, High Street, Moffat

Wednesday 14th July

1-5pm and 7-9pm - Photos of Old Moffat on display in Town Hall. 2pm, 3.30pm and 7pm - Slide Show 'A History of Moffat' in Town Hall. 8pm - Bingo in P.I.S.C.

Thursday 15th July

7pm - All the Fun of the Fair, Park Circle Park. Children's Tug of War 6pm - Adults Tug of War 7.30pm onwards. 8pm - Ladies Darts, Star Hotel

Friday 16th July

6.45pm onwards - Installation of Shepherd and Shepherd's Lass, Town Hall. 10pm-3am - Shepherd's Ball, Town Hall.

Saturday 17th July

10.30am - Children's Fancy Dress Parade, Station Park. 11.15am - Presentation of Prizes, Town Hall. 1pm - Langholm Pipe Band, Town Hall. 1pm - Decorated Vehicles, Showfield Hammerlands, Moffat. 1.20pm - Queen and Retinue will leave Buccleuch Hotel for Showfield Hammerlands. 1.40pm - Parade leaves Showfield Hammerlands for Town Hall, 2pm - Crowning of the Queen of Upper Annandale, 2.30pm - Children's Sports Entertainment, 3.45pm - Queen of Upper Annandale, Shepherd and Shepherd's Lass visit Moffat Hospital, 5pm - Principals to Tea at Buccleuch Hotel. 6pm Evening Entertainment at Town Hall. 10.30pm - Torchlight Procession to Hope-Johnstone Park. 11pm - Procession arrives at Hope-Johnstone Park, Bonfire, Disco until 2am

Sunday 18th July

10.45am - Kirking Service Parade assembles Town Hall.

11.15am - United Service St Andrew's Church.
