Dear Editor, As we approach the run-up to the 2012 Olympics it is encouraging to find that our prominent athletes are helping the country to find youngsters who could, with the appropriate training, be our Olympic champions of the future. Well done to our athletes who are participating in this selection process. Not only will this give our youth of today something to aim for but it will also keep a number of them out of trouble due to boredom. Mrs Pamela Gilhooley, West Lothian

Dear Editor, The recent train crash in Cumbria brings worry and uncertainty to rail comuters up and down the country. Lots of questions need answers, for example, what caused the derailment, was it because of lack of interest in the maintenance process? Was it wear and tear of the rails? Whatever the reason we cannot afford to let this happen again. There have been too many rail accidents over the years and hopefully this recent one will be the last. Mr McFinnie, Aberdeenshire

Dear Editor, The Church of Scotland recently introduced a new Hymn Book known in the religious circles as CH4. It is full of wonderful new and old hymns along with beatiful music for the discerning singer. The only problem with it is the size and weight many elderly members find it cumbersome to handle. Perhaps someone in their wisdom will reprint the hymn book in a smaller size ommiting the music score which at the moment is printed on the same page as the hymn. Name and address withheld
