Dunfermline Children's Gala Day is an annual event which takes place around June each year. The Gala Committee which is chaired by Robbie Beattie spends a lot of time organising fund raising events to raise enough money to be able to allow the children of Dunfermline the opportunity for them to take part in their spectacular Gala Day. This years' Gala is sponsored by FMC Technologies. The Gala Committee hosted a Casino Night for around 200 guests on Saturday 21st April 2007 in the Business Learning and Conference Centre at Lauder College Dunfermline to raise funds for the 2007 Gala which will be held on 30th June. The evening began with a three course dinner followed by a raffle before the gaming tables opened. Croupiers were on hand to explain the rules of Black Jack, Craps, Roulette and Poker. The idea was to have fun and raise funds, not bankrupt people so the stakes were low! At the end of the evening the person with the greatest number of chips won a mystery prize. Everyone who attended the event had a wonderful and exciting time, guests enjoyed the experience of playing the tables without worrying about becoming gambling addicts. Unfortunately, although many businesses in the area benefit from the Gala Day only a few actually support the Committee's efforts to raise the necessary funds to put on the event. It is hoped that in the future more businesses will become more involved. Ali Matthews the Gala Committee Secretary confirmed the Casino Night raised £3525 from the gaming tables and the raffle. She is now looking at staging another Casino Night later in the year.
