Edinburgh International Festival

13th August to 3rd September 2006, Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh. One of the greatest celebrations of the arts, the Edinburgh International Festival offers a unique opportunity to experience the excitement of live performance by internationally renowned artists as well as the joy of discovering new and unfamiliar works. Loch Rannoch
September 2006 and throughout the Summer, Loch Rannoch Watersports Centre, Kinloch Rannoch. A multitude of activities are available to groups and individuals. Taster sessions for beginners are available all week, while those with more experience can benefit from further training or simply hire one of their boats. Sheep dog trials
14th to 16th September 2006, The ISDS Centenary International Sheep Dog Trials near Kelso. The International Sheep Dog Society was formed in 1906 in Haddington and returns to its place of origin for the 2006 Centenary International Trials. These will be held on the Charterhall Estates, near Kelso. The local committee is already planning something special and it promises to be an event to remember. Stone skimming
24 September 2006, The World Stone Skimming Championships 2006, Easdale Island, Argyll, Scotland. This is an annual event. People of all ages and any level of skill can enter. Competitors are allowed 5 skims using specially selected Easdale slate skimming stones. To qualify, the stone must bounce at least three times - it is then judged on the distance achieved before it sinks. 22nd September to 1st October 2006, Wigtown Book Festival, Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway. The Scottish Book Town Festival is a celebration of the written word in Wigtown, our National Book Town, and spans over ten days. Hamish
29th September to 8th October 2006, Darvel Music Festival, Darvel, Ayrshire. This Music Festival is one of cultural highlights of the South West of Scotland, with over thirty acts offering a truly eclectic mix of styles. Argyllshire
6th to 15th October 2006, Cowalfest 2006, Dunoon and Cowal, Argyllshire. The largest walking festival in Scotland has also become a major arts festival with a 10 day long programme of walks, arts, cultural and social events that celebrate landscape and the natural world's influence on creativity. The Cowal Peninsula hosts this event every autumn and the West Highland destination is readily accessible by plane, train, car and ferry from the rest of the UK and Europe.
