13th August to 3rd September 2006, Edinburgh
International Festival, Edinburgh. One of the greatest celebrations
of the arts, the Edinburgh International Festival offers a unique
opportunity to experience the excitement of live performance by
internationally renowned artists as well as the joy of discovering
new and unfamiliar works. A rich programme of classical music, theatre,
opera and dance is staged in major theatres and concert halls and
smaller venues around the city over a three-week period in late

Rannoch. A multitude of activities are
available to groups and individuals. Taster sessions for beginners
are available all week, while those with more experience can benefit

to 16th September 2006, The ISDS Centenary International Sheep Dog
Trials near Kelso. The International Sheep Dog Society was
formed in 1906 in Haddington and returns to its place of origin for
the 2006 Centenary International Trials. These will be held on the
Charterhall Estates, near Kelso. The local committee is already planning
something special and it promises to be an event to remember. For

September 2006, The World Stone Skimming Championships 2006, Easdale
Island, Argyll, Scotland. This is an annual
event. People of all ages and any level
of skill can enter. Competitors are allowed 5 skims using specially
selected Easdale slate skimming stones. To qualify, the stone must
bounce at least three times - it is then judged on the distance achieved

22nd September to 1st October 2006, Wigtown
Book Festival, Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway. The Scottish
Book Town Festival is a celebration of the written word in Wigtown,
our National Book Town, and spans over ten days. The town has a population
of only 900 people, a malt whisky distillery and a quarter of a million
books. The Wigtown Festival prompts a mass migration of bibliophiles
to this green, pastoral corner of Scotland. And rest assured that,

This Music Festival is one of cultural highlights of the South West

to 15th October 2006, Cowalfest 2006, Dunoon and Cowal, Argyllshire.
The largest walking festival in Scotland has also become a major arts
festival with a 10 day long programme of walks, arts, cultural and
social events that celebrate landscape and the natural world's influence
on creativity. The Cowal Peninsula hosts this event every autumn and
the West Highland destination is readily accessible by plane, train,
car and ferry from the rest of the UK and Europe. Its landscape of
mountains and lochs, formed by fire and ice, are graced by forest
