5th September 2009, Scottish Open Chainsaw Carving Competition, Carrbridge, Highlands. The Scottish Open Chainsaw Carving Competition alias 'Carve Carrbridge' as it is known, welcomes competitors from across the UK. Detailed sculptures are carved from logs using only chainsaws. Scotland's best Country Music Festival, which is now in its' tenth year, offering something for all lovers of country music. 27th September 2009, The World Stone Skimming Championships 2007, Easdale Island, Argyll, Scotland. This is an annual event. People of all ages and any level of skill can enter. Competitors are allowed 5 skims using specially selected Easdale slate skimming stones. To qualify, the stone must bounce at least three times - it is then judged on the distance achieved before it sinks. 25th September to 4th October 2009, Wigtown Book Festival, Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway. The Scottish Book Town Festival is a celebration of the written word in Wigtown, our National Book Town, and spans over ten days. The town has a population of only 900 people, a malt whisky distillery and a quarter of a million books. The Wigtown Festival prompts a mass migration of bibliophiles to this green, pastoral corner of Scotland.
