'Letters to the Editor'

Dear Editor, South Ayrshire certainly believes in brainwashing it`s children young for the sake of political correctness . Or is that political cowardness? To have young children enter a poster competition for a political correctness on rascism beggars belief.
Leave the children alone to enjoy what little childhood they have without brainwashing them with politics of the insane. Scotland is already percieved as the laughing stock of the world with it`s inept politicians, don`t pass this legacy into the minds of innocent children.

Bob Horner , Leicester .

Dear Editor, As a non smoker I am delighted that in Scotland people are not allowed to smoke in public, however, from memory I am sure some premises did provide a separate area for smoking and non smoking customers. I sincerely hope that these businesses who rely on public patronage will not suffer because of this ban.

Mrs Forster, Midlothian

Dear Editor, I wonder how safe our MSP’s will be when they return to their debating chamber? So that you understand here is part of the report outlining safety issues and the work to be done on the Scottish Parliament’s Chamber after faults being found in the Parliament's roof. “To establish the minimum amount of work necessary we have re-analysed the structure for the period when the Chamber would be in use prior to implementing the permanent solution. The results of this analysis indicate that there are just a limited number of struts (up to 15) that are required to take tension, but of course we cannot be certain that the bolts installed to take these loads are undamaged. So we have also carried out a ‘worst case scenario' analysis….”

It leaves some questions in my mind, what happens if all 15 struts have a fault? How has the analysis been done? What happens if other faults occur that multiply the risk of an incident? Will it take an injury or a fatality of one or more of our MSP’s before our parliament see’s sense? All to save £17,500 per week on using Committee Room 2. What is the price of life? I would suggest £17,500 is a bargain!
