Flooding in Scotland

Dear Editor, SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) have put together an excellent map showing areas that may be at risk due to flooding. The agency do caution people that there are existing flood defences and by ticking a box on the map the flood defence position and purpose is shown. Readers can find the information about areas that are at risk of flooding by clicking here.
I must congratulate SEPA on their work.
Best wishes

Forth Road Bridge

Dear Editor, I read with concern the options FETA have for improving the Forth Road Bridge should the current dehumidifcation processes fail. The FETA report summarises as follows - 1. Replacement cable above the existing cable complete closures over seven years of 50 weekends Friday to Monday with additional three separate blocks of contraflow 32, 12 and 24 weeks over a period of 4 years - 2. Augmentation with a new cable above the existing cable - Similar to 1 but existing cables stay in place. Complete closures: 50 weekends (Friday evening to Monday morning) over six years with Carriageway closures requiring contra-flow: two separate blocks of 32 and 24 weeks, spread over three years - 3. Augmentation with a new cable to the side 5.5 years with no complete closures and two separate blocks of 32 and 24 weeks, together with a further 48 weeks of discrete closures, spread over four years. My question is what plans have been put in place to provide alternative means of crossing the Forth if the Road Bridge is to be closed for such long and frequent periods of time?

Post Office Haddington

Dear Editor, I read with concern, especially when we are so close the Christmas, that the post office is overcharging it’s customers. Thirty separate packages had been weighed for posting, the total overcharge being a hefty £10.76p! That is 35p per packet. Is it not time the Post Office get’s it house in order?
