This month we would like to introduce you to 'New Kids on the Block' guest Paul Holmes, who very kindly agreed to share his enthusiasm for his new found enterprise with our readers.

Based in Fife PHolmes.com is a small family run Web Development and New Media business with an emphasis on quality and value. They provide a range of IT web and support services by qualified professionals. They are not a hard sell company producing template based third party products. All their work is original custom made to customer requirements and made with an attention to detail if you think it can not be done then give them a call, they will try to do it.

The story goes 'PHolmes.com was formed from desperation and disbelief at the consistently low standards produced by so called "Professional" Web Development Companies. Paul Holmes, the director of the company was not always involved in IT or as he puts it "Geek Stuff". A proud tradesman who followed in the footsteps of his Grandfather into the shipbuilding industry at a time when Scotland's ships no longer ruled the waves and the "Cold War" was a distant memory but still with the belief that whatever he chose to do in life he would do to the very best of his abilities or at least try.

After spells as Shipwright, Plater, Joiner, Shop Fitter, Fabricator, Sheet Metal Worker..... and the list goes on, Paul took work offshore for a coastal towing company, a job he still fondly remembers with pride and with more than one or two "sea-dog" stories which wont be repeated in print. Sadly like all the manual skilled jobs this in time became a short contract affair so at the tender age of 35 decided it was time to go back to school and take a career path with possibly more stability...... how wrong could he be.

And so it was, education rushed by much quicker the second time round and before he could say "there's no place like home" and click his heels together he was standing with a diploma in Web Development in his hand. The original intention was just to gain an IT skill and build on that through employment, an old mans way of thinking and not how Bill Gates got to where he is I'm sure but "everyday is a school day" as someone once quoted.

Now to the whole point of the story although it is far from finished and we cannot write the last chapter (hopefully for a long time). Yes they are a Web Development company but first let's stress the word developer. This means that they actually work on new skills, push the boundaries and if something cannot be done they ask why? and do their best to achieve it anyway. pholmes.com are not looking to compete with low end, poor quality and unqualified web designers but to simply strive for excellence in what they produce. That should explain Paul's lack of pinstripe suits and sales jargon.
