Jemma Eadie looking foward to her trip to Romania

St Andrews University Student 'Jemma Eadie' prepares for visit to Romania

The Sangsters Folk Group at Dalgety Bay

Jemma Eadie, pictured above left, from Dalgety Bay is in her third year of study at St Andrews Univerity her subject being International Relations. This summer Jemma will be visitng Cluj in Romania to teach English to pupils in two schools. Although St Andrews Univerity have been involved in sending students to Romania for a number of years this will be Jemma's first visit.

Jemma was inspired to make this trip because "under the dictatorship of Ceausescu childcare was not just primitive, it was barbaric. Children with disabilities were shut away in orphanages and left to die. Thankfully, that regime was overthrown but Romania still needs our help".

To avoid being a burden on their Romanian hosts all students are encouraged to raise funds to cover their costs and living expenses.

To help achieve this, Jemma recently held a fundrasing evening in Dalgety Bay Sailing Club, a popular venue for Folk Groups, with entertainment being provided by 'The Sangsters' pictured above right, a very well known folk group from Fife.

The evening was so successful, part of the funds raised will help with the costs of education for orphans and very poor children in summer camps, it will be divided between two projects, one in Cluj and another taking place in Baia Mare.

We wish Jemma 'Good Luck' in her quest to help these children.
