Dear Editor, I believe the strikes taking place at Aberdeen Council are a result of the introduction of 'Single Status' - equal pay for male and female personnel. Is it not the case that the original idea came from the Deputy Prime Minister's Office which means that they should ensure there is enough money in the kitty to cover the cost of this and not the Scottish Executive or the Council? Name and Address given.

Dear Editor, please help us save DALKEITH PARK. Dalkeith Country Park
is an important part of our natural heritage but it is now under threat.
Planning permission was granted in 1993 for the Dalkeith Northern Bypass.
The new road will run from the City Bypass, past Castle Steads, through
the middle of Dalkeith Park and join the A68 above Fordel Services. The
planners have failed to recognise that the Park now attracts at least
50,000 visitors annually. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty,
unique within this area and should be protected. Regular users of the
park have launched a campaign to save the park for the area and future
generations. Name and Address given.

Dear Editor, It is good that the Council in Aberdeen are starting to put back the north-east turret on the Town House clocktower tomorrow (Thursday 1 September). Apparantly if weather permits the turet should be back in place on 30th September 2005. All for the price of £9,000. This is great news and I look forward to seeing the turet back in place.
